Product Details
Sauternes is a luscious sweet wine, perfect for pairing with cheese. It’s radiant golden hue emanates fragrances of blossoms, white peach, and honey. The palate offers a harmonious blend of richness and lusciousness, with sweetness beautifully balanced by refined acidity. Mouth-watering flavours of citrus, apricot, and hints of caramel linger into a satisfyingly prolonged finish. Its golden appearance reveals an aromatic bouquet of beeswax, honey, and citrus-infused barley sugar. Opulent sweetness on the palate is accented by nuances of caramel and hazelnut, all balanced by a crisp acidity.
Produced in the Sauternais region of Bordeaux, Sauternes is a renowned French sweet wine predominantly made from Sémillon grapes, often blended with Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. It’s unique due to the presence of botrytis, or noble rot, which dehydrates the grapes, concentrating sugars and flavours. Grapes are harvested by hand in multiple passes through the vineyard, selecting only the noble rot-affected grapes at peak ripeness. This meticulous process results in intense sweetness, complex flavours, and a characteristic golden colour.
Sauternes, an ideal finale to a meal, pairs well with desserts, cheese, or can be savoured on its own. For a decadent experience, pair it with foie gras, Fourme D’Ambert cheese, or fruity desserts like peach or apple tart (we love this recipe) to elevate your dining experience and enhance its complex flavour profile.
