Château Pichon Comtesse, a prestigious estate in Pauillac, Bordeaux, holds the distinction of being ranked a Second Growth in Bordeaux’s 1855 classification. It is part of the esteemed “Super Seconds” group. Located in the southern part of the Pauillac appellation, the charming château stands adjacent to Château Latour and close to the border of St Julien. Formerly a single estate, it was divided into Château Pichon Comtesse and Château Pichon Baron in 1850. From 1978 to the mid-2000s, the estate was managed by the influential Madame May-Eliane de Lencquesaing, a prominent figure in Bordeaux’s history.
Today, Château Pichon Comtesse is owned by the Rouzaud family, renowned proprietors of Champagne Louis Roederer. With 80 hectares of vines, the estate is currently under the skilled direction of winemaker Nicolas Glumineau, who also oversees Château de Pez, a sibling estate in St Estèphe.
