Description
The 2023 La Trucha Albariño from Rías Baixas is a standout example of Spain’s celebrated Albariño grape. It opens with enticing aromas of apricot, peach, and pineapple. These are beautifully balanced by a subtle saline minerality that reflects the wine’s coastal origins. On the palate, it’s lively and fresh, offering a smooth, textured mouthfeel and a crisp acidity. This acidity leads to a long, refreshing finish. La Trucha is perfect for those who enjoy a vibrant, fruit-forward white wine with a touch of elegance. Ultimately, it delivers a delightful expression of the Rías Baixas region.
History and Winemaking
La Trucha comes from the Condado de Tea sub-zone of Rías Baixas, near the Portuguese border. This area enjoys a slightly warmer and drier climate than the rest of Rías Baixas, thanks to its inland location and elevated vineyards. The vineyards sit about 300m above sea level on the right bank of the Miño River.
The Alonso family, who farm these vineyards, are committed to highlighting Albariño’s natural vibrancy and minerality. For the 2023 vintage, they hand-harvested the grapes with great care and fermented them in stainless steel. This method preserved the grape’s aromatic intensity and fresh character. Named after the trout José Alonso used to fish for in the Miño River as a child, La Trucha honors the family’s roots and the region’s natural beauty.
