Description
A sweet wine destined to be enjoyed with cheese! Golden coloured with aromas of flowers, white peach, and honey. The palate is well-balanced, rich, and luscious, with the sweetness offset by fine acidity. Flavours of citrus, apricot, and some caramel notes lead to a long finish.
History and Winemaking
The Royal Tokaji Wine Company, founded in 1989, is a collaboration between local growers and foreign investors, including wine expert Hugh Johnson. Their goal was to revive the quality and tradition of Tokaji wines, especially the renowned Aszú wines. The winery has become one of the most prominent in the Tokaji region, blending traditional methods with modern techniques.
In the vineyards, time-honoured practices continue. Each rotten, raisin-like Aszú berry is carefully selected and placed in wooden tubs called “puttonyos.” The wine undergoes a unique two-stage process, combining richness and acidity to create a distinctive flavour profile.
The Royal Tokaji range includes dry white Furmint, late harvest Ats Cuvee, 5 and 6 puttonyos Aszú blends, single vineyard wines, and the rare Essencia wines. The winery’s dedication to quality has brought Tokaji wines back to their former glory, living up to Louis XIV’s praise of the “wine of kings.”
