Location
Lanark Blue is produced by Errington Cheese on a small farm in Lanarkshire, Scotland, just south of Biggar. The cheese is handcrafted on-site using milk from the family’s own Lacaune sheep.
Tasting
Often described as Scotland’s answer to Roquefort, Lanark Blue is an unpressed, farmhouse blue cheese with a compact, slightly crumbly texture. Made from rich raw sheep’s milk, it delivers a bold and complex flavour. The initial savoury saltiness of the blue mould gives way to sweet, nutty notes and a deep, lingering richness that reflects the quality of the milk and the rugged landscape the sheep graze. Powerful yet balanced, it is a cheese with real depth and character.
Pairing
Lanark Blue pairs beautifully with full-bodied red wines, red dessert wines, and strong craft ales that can stand up to its intensity. It is also excellent with honey, dried fruits, or oatcakes, which highlight the cheese’s sweet and nutty undertones.
