Description
A beautifully structured and elegant Margaux, Château La Bessane 2018 is a rich and expressive Bordeaux blend with remarkable freshness and complexity. The nose is deep and enticing, offering aromas of ripe black fruit, liquorice, and subtle spice, while the palate is full-bodied and fleshy, with silky tannins and a long, refined finish. Aged for 12 months in barrel, this wine balances power and elegance, making it a classic expression of the Margaux appellation.
History and Winemaking
Château La Bessane is a small yet prestigious 2-hectare estate under the Château Paloumey umbrella, located in the renowned Margaux appellation of Bordeaux. Grown on the region’s gravel, pebbles, and clayey sand soils, the vineyard’s slightly unconventional blend—55% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 22% Petit Verdot—creates a wine with depth, freshness, and unique personality. After careful vinification, the wine is aged in oak barrels for 12 months, enhancing its complexity and ageing potential.
Tasting Notes
Aromas of blackcurrant, ripe plum, and dark cherries intertwine with hints of liquorice, cedar, and earthy minerality. The palate is full-bodied and well-structured, with rich dark fruit flavours, smooth tannins, and a vibrant freshness that leads to a long, elegant finish.
Pairings
This refined Margaux pairs beautifully with roast lamb, grilled duck breast, or fillet steak. Its silky tannins and freshness also make it an excellent match for hard cheeses like aged Comté or Mimolette, as well as classic French dishes like filet de boeuf en croute or mushroom risotto.
