Product Details

Description

The 2022 Figgie Daniel is an energetic and refreshing wine with a naturally lively spritz. It shows bright flavours of green apple, lemon rind, and elderflower, along with gentle yeasty notes. The wine is unfiltered and unfined, so lees sediment remains in the bottle. It follows the traditional Col Fondo method, adding depth and character. We recommend gently shaking the bottle before serving to mix the sediment. This enhances the wine’s cloudy texture, tangy freshness, and nutty complexity.

History and Winemaking

Figgie Daniel is part of the “Don’t Feed The Ponies” range, supporting Dartmoor National Park’s preservation efforts. For each bottle sold, 25p goes to the Dartmoor Preservation Association. The wine is made at Sandridge Barton winery on the Sharpham Estate, beside the River Dart in Devon. This estate has over 40 years of winemaking tradition and harvests up to 60 tonnes of grapes each year. The vineyard, planted in 2008, now includes 24 acres of vines. Varieties grown include Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Madeline Angevine, and Bacchus.

The wine is made using the Col Fondo style, similar to Pet-Nat. This method ferments the wine in bottle, leaving lees sediment for natural fizz. All winemaking processes take place on-site, including bottling and maturation. Wines mature in a mix of oak barrels, stainless steel tanks, and other vessels, creating varied and expressive results.

Tasting Notes

Figgie Daniel offers a light and spritzy profile, with refreshing green apple, lemon rind, elderflower, and subtle yeasty notes. The presence of lees sediment adds complexity and a unique texture to the wine, resulting in a tangy, nutty finish. Its lively spritz makes it a perfect choice for summer enjoyment.

Food Pairings

Pair Figgie Daniel with kimchi or the fish sauce in Thai styles of food or robust cheeses that can stand up to the tangy flavours like blue cheeses or aged cows milk cheeses.
